Director of Family MinistriesDouglasville First United Methodist Church (DFUMC) is an established and service oriented Christian faith community located in Douglasville, Georgia, a western suburb of Atlanta. With a rich history spanning decades (est. 1850), DFUMC is committed to fostering spiritual growth, community outreach, and providing a welcoming environment for individuals and families.
DFUMC is seeking a full-time Director of Family Ministries to lead our growing Youth and Children’s Ministry. The role is responsible for all aspects of faith development for youth and children birth through 12
th grade and their families. This includes providing them an educational, theological, and mission-oriented foundation for a lifetime journey in the Christian faith.
Responsibilities in Team Leadership- Guide the youth, children, and nursey ministry staff in the creation of an active ministry that allows youth and children to learn about and experience the love of Jesus.
- Coordinate, train, lead, and support volunteers to serve, nurture and uplift the youth and children of DFUMC.
- Foster Christian formation and discipleship of all age groups of the next generation.
- Plan, oversee and lead programs and events for the next generations, building teams to serve them well.
- Champion the next generation throughout all ministries of the church, helping each child and student feel valued.
- Collaborate with other ministries and church operations staff including Local and Global Outreach, Evangelism, Worship, Youth Ministries, Sunday School, and Communications
Responsibilities in Planning- Evaluate and select age-appropriate curriculum and resources for Christian education, promoting spiritual growth among youth and children.
- Develop and execute Youth, Children and Family events such as Vacation Bible School, community outreach and seasonal celebrations.
- Perform ongoing assessment of programs, procedures, and systems to determine effectiveness and execute changes as needed.
Responsibilities in Administrative Duties- Maintain a consistent presence on Sunday mornings and at all children and youth events, supporting leaders and volunteers and interacting with parents, youth, and children.
- Ensure that the space for youth and children is welcoming, safe, organized, and adequately equipped for age-appropriate use.
- Provide effective means of communication to parents of weekly, monthly, and seasonal events.
- Responsible for organizing annual Safe Sanctuary Training.
- Ensuring that all volunteers working with youth and children have up to date background checks.
- Prepare and oversee the ministry budget. Maintain careful stewardship and accurate budgeting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Excellent teamwork, collaboration, and management skills to lead ministry teams, multiple events and supervision of employees and volunteers.

- Self-motivated to study and improve knowledge and skill in areas of responsibility as needed.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through oral and written formats.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to connect on a personal level with families.
Qualifications- College degree preferred. Seminary training or Childhood Education degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years of ministry experience working with children required.
- Proven ability to maintain a high level of integrity, discernment, and discretion with personal and confidential information.
